EU Delegation to HarHub

HarHub had the privilege of hosting a high-level delegation from the European Union, led by H.E. Francesca Di Mauro, EU Ambassador to Somalia, accompanied by senior representatives from the Political Section, Development Cooperation, Social Services, and Advisory Units.

EU Ambassador message:

So very happy to be in the HarHub today here in Hargeisa. Some the ambassador, and to the to the delegation and, very happy that we managed to, support many young entrepreneur, men and women. A lot of women, in this, in the center.

So it' s, it' s a very I' m very pleased that through this program, the BIC Somali program, we managed really, throughout, to find innovation find innovative solution and support you with accompaniment with skill development but also with funding.

So, and this is really very much part of our overall objective, which is job creation, which is really to support the prosperity and support the dreams of the youth. Thank you

The purpose of the visit was to showcase HarHub’s strategic pillars, EU-funded initiatives, and the impact of the BIC Somali Program, which supports innovative, youth-led and women-led enterprises across Somaliland and Somalia.

Somaliland National Tech Exp 2025.

The Somaliland Tech Expo 2025 brought together universities, startups, policymakers, and private sector leaders to showcase emerging technology and strengthen the national innovation ecosystem, with HarHub serving as Official Co-Host. Through its leadership of the six-day Technology Innovation Challenge involving 10 universities and a USD 30,000 prize pool, HarHub reinforced structured competition, university engagement, and youth-driven innovation as key pillars of Somaliland’s digital economy growth.

Somaliland MSME Development Conference 2025

On April 29 and May 30, HarHub, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, organized the first-ever Somaliland MSME Development Conference. This initiative marked a shared vision between the Ministry and key stakeholders particularly HarHub to establish a national platform for dialogue and collaboration among policymakers, development partners, private sector actors, and entrepreneurs. The goal: to foster a more inclusive and dynamic MSME ecosystem in Somaliland.

With over six years of hands-on experience supporting youth- and women-led startups and MSMEs, HarHub contributed vital grassroots insights into the challenges faced by entrepreneurs across the country. The conference focused on critical themes such as access to finance, digital transformation, women in business, youth startup promotion, financial inclusion, financial literacy, and more.

Tarmiye Fund-New Innovative Access To Finance.

During the Access to finance panel discussion, HarHub General Manager, Mahamoud Batalaale have highlighted Tarmiye Fund a unique access to finance model that provides startups and MSMEs with a combination of loans and grants to support their launch and growth.

Mahamoud explained how our approach combines blended financing through a mix of loans and conditional grant investments with needs-based training and tailored business development services to empower entrepreneurs. We leverage technology through the Tarmiye Crowdfunding Platform to broaden access to finance, with a strong focus on supporting youth and women.

Loans under $5,000 USD require no collateral, and repayment schedules are adapted to suit each business’s specific context. Entrepreneurs also benefit from a 90-day grace period before repayments begin.

Digital Transformation and Women in Business

Another key highlight of the MSME Development Conference was a panel discussion on business digital transformation. During the session, Samda Abdi Farah, co-founder of Dhammays Digital, shared her inspiring journey as a woman in tech and entrepreneur. She spoke about how the digital skills she gained through HarHub empowered her to launch a startup focused on supporting MSMEs through their digital transformation.

Samda explained how Dhammays Digital provides essential services such as website development, branding, social media management, and content creation. She emphasized the importance of helping small businesses in Somaliland embrace digital tools to enhance their visibility, competitiveness, and operational efficiency.

Startup Showcasing in The MSME Conference

To highlight HarHub's innovation ecosystem, four startups that successfully graduated from HarHub’s incubation and acceleration programs were invited to showcase their work at the conference. The primary objective of this startup showcase was to provide these entrepreneurs with a platform to attract new customers, serve as role models for their peers, engage with government officials on the challenges facing startups, and build valuable networks with other conference participants.

The startups showcased their products and services and had the opportunity to engage directly with key government leaders, including the President of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi Cirro, the Minister of Trade and Tourism, the Mayor of Hargeisa, and other senior officials. In addition to presenting their innovations, the startups were able to sell their products to conference participants and establish meaningful connections with financial institutions, which were also present to showcase their services.
